Aimed at business users, the ViewPad 10pro runs Android 2.3 "Gingerbread" as an application on top of the Windows 7 operating system, according to Viewsonic. "Users need to simply tap on the Android icon to make a seamless switch between business productivity and...entertainment," the company said in a statement.
Intel, which is supplying the 1.5GHz Atom Z670 processor powering the tablet, said the 10pro provides a platform to demonstrate how its processors can run both operating systems.
Specifications include a 1,024x600 10.1-inch capacitive multi-touch-screen LCD with LED backlight; Wi-Fi; Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR; HDMI port; microSD card slot; a 1.3-megapixel front camera, battery life rated at up to eight hours, a thickness of 0.58 inches, and weight of 1.97 pounds.
The dual-OS ViewPad 10pro is available in two configurations. For $699, the tablet comes with Windows 7 Professional, a 32GB solid-state-drive hard drive, and Android 2.3. For $599, it's configured with Windows 7 Home Premium, a 16GB SSD, and Android 2.3.
A docking station is also available for $59. Both tablet configurations will be widely available in late August, with limited numbers currently available, Viewsonic said.
